Matéria fala sobre como organoides humanos desenvolvidos em laboratório – uma das principais tecnologias no estudo de ciência básica do IDOR – estão contribuindo com os estudos da Covid-19, como também foram essenciais para correlacionar o vírus da zika com a ocorrência de microcefalia em 2019. Graças a essa tecnologia, soube-se rapidamente que a Covid-19 tinha potencial para afetar não apenas os pulmões como também o coração, intestino, rins e até mesmo o cérebro. A neurocientista do IDOR, Dra. Marília Zaluar Guimarães, explica na matéria o processo de desenvolvimento dos organoides a partir de células coletadas na urina de doadores.
