De acordo com os pesquisadores do Instituto D´Or de Pesquisa e Ensino (IDOR) em parceria com a Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC), responsáveis pelo estudo, amostras de saliva de 81 crianças internadas em unidades de terapia intensidade (UTI) em São Paulo demonstraram que, no grupo onde havia terapia com contação de histórias, houve diminuição nos níveis do cortisol, hormônio associado ao estresse.
